Mother Giselle says in one of her dialogues that the main reason why the majority of the Chantry members are female (with the higher ranks being only female) is because of tradition. Now, I think her reasons DO make sense (after all, it IS Vivienne, we know she doesn't blink if she doesn't see an opportunity to gain more power), but it just felt so random that she can be a Divine candidate and not, for example, Mother Giselle, who is the first Chantry member to actually offer you assistance.

Their reasonings are somewhat balanced too, Cassandra wants to set things right while being conservative, Leliana wants to set things right in a more revolutionary and fair way, and Vivienne brings my first problem: she is there just for the political power and to restore the Circle. All of them seem to be somewhat balanced in their strenghts and weaknesses too, Cassandra is bad at the game, but is faithful and, being of noble birth is certain to have great influence, Leliana is faithful and good at The Game, but she isn't nearly as influential as the other two and Vivienne is well known figure and good Game player, but she actually seems quite agnostic. The Revered Mother bothers Josephine, you find out that Cassandra and Leliana are the main candidates and eventually you find out you could help Vivienne into the Sunburst Throne as well, if you want her there.
